Affordable Housing in NJ: Presentation from the Fair Share Housing Center

Whether you own a home or rent, where we live plays a big part in how we live. For working families, storm survivors, folks in recovery, and many more, we know that while a home is something we all need, it’s often a lot tougher to get and keep a roof over our heads than it should be. We keep hearing from you all – affordable housing is hard to come by, we need it in our communities. So we invited some friends to chat with us about what we can do.

On January 26, 2024, we had a joint event with the Fair Share Housing Center (FSHC) about the challenges New Jersey faces when it comes to affordable housing, the role the Mount Laurel Doctrine has played in securing more, and how to join the fight. Check out the presentation they made here: Fair Share Housing Center: Mt. Laurelopens POWERPOINT file .

FSHC supports the passage of housing laws that provide a safe, affordable home for every New Jersey resident and their families. They work to implement the Mount Laurel Doctrine, a legal ruling that made affordable housing a constitutional requirement in New Jersey. FSHC believes that every state resident should be able to live where they work, free from any form of discrimination or economic barriers.
