We are honored to be part of the inaugural cohort of grant recipients of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Momentum Fund.
The purpose of this grant is to support grassroots organizations like us that are working to advance policy solutions that directly address structural racial inequities in our communities. It’s not always clear that structural racial inequities can impact all of us.
For example – the leading cause of death in this country other than COVID-19 is preventable drug overdoses. Black, Brown and White we are in this together. If not for the war on drugs, our communities would not be facing the increasing overdose crisis we do today. Criminalization of people who use drugs has led us to a lack of treatment resources and tough love policies that are failing us and killing our loved ones.
If we want to end the overdose crisis, we must advance policies that increase compassionate public healthcare, evidence-based treatment and harm reduction , and an end to the criminalization of people who use drugs. And that’s just one example of how we are all in this together.
