So you lived through a disaster – what now?
One and a half years after Hurricane Ida, both renters and homeowners are still struggling with no true recovery in sight. The storm dealt a devastating blow to many of our homes, communities, and finances – and the programs that were supposed to help us rebuild and return home were confusing, slow-moving, and sometimes no help at all. Surviving something like this can make you feel like you have to figure it all out on your own. But you’re not alone.
If you’re a Hurricane Ida survivor in New Jersey, the New Jersey Resource Project and New Jersey Organizing Project and friends are hosting a series of community meetings and we’d love to see you there.
At these community meetings, you can meet other Ida survivors, learn about grant money that’s on its way (how to apply, what’s available, and what you qualify for), and connect with case managers and folks who can provide more information and support for your recovery. You can opens in a new windowapply for these programs here, and read through our explainer below for a common-sense guide to which ones are best suited to your recovery.

Next, you can download our opens in a new windowHurricane Ida Program Explainer hereopens PDF file and check our FAQ from previous meetings. We know recovering from a disaster is a long process that’s often much more confusing and complicated than it needs to be. There are multiple recovery programs that each have their own requirements, with no one size fits all approach. So we made this explainer laying out what programs are available, which you could potentially qualify for, and how you can apply in simple language that you and I can both understand. We’ll be going over this document in more detail at our community meetings, so if you want to dig in deep make sure to RSVP for one! And feel free to share it out with other Ida survivors.
And finally, learn more about us and our fight for a fair Ida recovery opens in a new windowhere. We’ve been connecting with other Ida survivors to build a network of resources and support, and now we’re standing together to demand that all of us get the recovery we deserve.
