When I was deeply struggling with Substance use Disorder in 2008, I was guided and helped to be put on Medicaid. I utilized Medicaid for at least 6-7 years to stay on a path of healing from both Substance Use Disorder and my overall mental health. I needed both to be arrested in concert in order to stay sober, abstinent and of sane mind.
Being new to treatment and recovery, finding stable and gainful employment was difficult, but having Medicaid helped me stay sober, abstinent, and keep a sane mind.
